- Students with specialized skills and knowledge at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Specialized centers and institutes
-
Specialized equipment and facilities
- Grants Development Office, which has staff experienced with grant and contract proposal preparation, negotiation and funding sources, as well as electronic databases and search services

Another important resource is Cal Polys Robert E. Kennedy Library. In addition to its extensive book and periodical collection, which is accessible to the general public, the Cal Poly library provides access to more than 100 electronic information databases, including specialized business, science and technology online databases. Coverage ranges from indexes and abstracts to full text. The library also offers sources for scientific, technical, and medical research, as well as comprehensive indices to journals, conference proceedings, technical reports and other documents relating to agriculture and information systems.
All library resources are accessible in the library, on campus and remotely to students, faculty and staff of the university, and may be provided to companies engaged in collaborative applied research projects and to occupants of the future Cal Poly Technology Park.
